Meet the Employment Equity Advocates!

As the local lead for the Colour of Poverty - Colour of Change Network, Health and Racism is looking to develop a concerted effort to talk about employment equity in Mississauga over the next year or so.

Health and Racism hired two Employment Equity Advocates to take up the task of facilitating workshops, dialogue and discussions about employment equity in various sectors across Mississauga. This means: a forum on employment equity in November; lunch and learn sessions; community dialogues in various neighbourhoods. We are very excited about this project, and are delighted to announce the Advocates:

Devi Mohabir
[Devi's work experience includes residential and life skills counselling for adults and seniors with development disabilities and crisis line counselling with the Sexual Assault/Rape Crisis Centre of Peel. At present, she is also a Women's Advocate Relief Counselor at Interim Place, providing individual support using a feminist, anti-oppression approach and a therapeutic emphasis on personal empowerment.]

Wariri Muhungi
[Wariri has a Masters in Social Justice Education and Community Development. She believes that we all have a responsibility and accountability as a people and guests on Mother Earth to better our lives with integrity through various forms (education, spirituality, organizing, art, music, the media, etc.).]
