Anti-Racist LGBT Training

Health and Racism Working Group is pleased to host an anti-racist LGBT training for its members and allies.

The Health and Racism Working Group recognizes that addressing racism is an entry point into addressing multiple barriers that racialized communities face, and also the intersectionality of oppressions.

In the past we have carried out a gender workshop for Core Members that addressed gender and sexism, and this workshop on homophobia continues our intersectional capacity building.

Why address homophobia from an anti-racist framework?
- to promote an equity strategy, we must keep the complexity of people's lives including their intersectional experiences with oppression
- to continue to emphasize the importance of self-reflection and addressing privilege and personal experiences within our anti-racist work
- homophobia exists across all communities and anti-homophobic sentiments can often build on racist sentiments to justify challenging homophobia in specific cultures/faiths
- racism within the LGBT community exists
- racism is an entry point into understanding and challenging other forms of oppression...not competing with other oppressions
- to emphasize the importance of allying across oppressions

Join us on November 10th from 9:30am-4pm for this exciting workshop!

Please register ASAP by emailing healthandracism@gmail.com, space is very limited. Please share with your colleagues. This training is not suitable for people who have not previously taken anti-racist, or anti-oppressive training.

If cost, time, or the date is a barrier, please give us feedback.
