We're in Amazing Company!

We have been recognized as one of the top 100 Canadian People of Colour activists and organizations, part of the 2nd annual Racism Free Ontario campaign!

The Council of Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA), had been engaged in the 100 day anti-racism campaign, across Ontario, beginning on December 10th 2011 (Human Rights Day), and culminating on March 21st 2012 (International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination). 


Racism-Free Ontario's objectives are: 

a) to create broader public awareness so that Ontarians accept and acknowledge that racism (structural, institutional and individualized) is still alive in our province

b) to organize the communities to educate the systems so that the systems also accept that racism exists within their structures, policies and practices
c) to support and promote people working on anti-racism related initiatives so that they feel encouraged and motivated
d) to showcase and profile initiatives addressing racism and promoting access, equity and inclusion
e) to build momentum, strength and capacity so that our collective anti-racism work in Ontario becomes sustainable, collaborative and impactful 100 Days Period will fall between the International Human Rights Day (Dec 10th) to International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination (Mar 21st).

We've made the list! It is very humbling to be in such amazing company. The list includes individuals with Peel connections like Uzma Shakir (resident), Kenji Tokawa (who facilitated one of our Expressive Arts projects in 2010), and Loly Rico (who is coordinating a project on Human Trafficking through the Sexual Assault Rape Crisis Centre of Peel). There are amazing folks like Grace-Edward Galabuzi and groups like No One Is Illegal Toronto.
