The Health and Racism Working Group (HaR) and Malton Moms worked together to make this event happen.
Crystal Perryman-Mark, who is a part of both groups, welcomed all to the event with a recognition of the land we are on, and a note about the complications of being colonized peoples on this land. She shared a beautiful poem, which was very well received.
Our first speaker, Carlene McKenzie, spoke about wellness and self-care, with a special focus on Black mothers. Carlene shared resources with the group, including an amazing poster on "The Strong Black Woman".
Our second speaker, Anya White (from Bramalea Community Health Centre), led us through a laughter-filled conversation about eating healthy within Black Caribbean communities. There was some debate about particular ways to prepare some dishes, and Anya's rule of "1 teaspoon of oil per person being served" was well-taken!
We enjoyed delicious food catered by License to Cook, including chicken skewers, vegetable skewers, festival, fruits and veggies!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the space - it was comfortable, inviting, and full of laughter!

This is a good common sense Blog. Very helpful to one who is just finding the resources about this part. It will certainly help educate me.
